People living in the Western Division should expect disruptions to electricity supply on May 1, Energy Fiji Ltd CEO Hasmukh Patel said in a statement.

He said urgent repair, maintenance and upgrade works would be carried out at the Vuda substation and the Nadarivatu switchyard.

He said for the Vuda substation, an installation of strain insulators, string conductors would be carried out while two new transformers would be assembled and aligned.

“To enable EFL to undertake the above works, EFL will de-energise the 132kV transmission line that transmits power from the Nadarivatu switchyard to the Vuda substation from 4am to 5pm on Sunday, May 1, 2022 to allow our teams to carry out the necessary works,” he said.

“During this period, EFL will supply electricity from its diesel power stations at Vuda, Qeleloa, Nadi, Sigatoka and Rakiraki to meet the electricity demand of our valued customers in the Western Division from Matanipusi hill in Serua to Raviravi in Ba and Rakiraki central business district. “Due to the above works in the Western Division, power supply to our valued customers in the following districts will be affected by this planned repair, maintenance and upgrade exercise.”

He said areas expected to be affected include Tomuka, Tavakubu, Saru, Tawatawa and Vaivai in Lautoka, Raviravi Ba to Tavua, whole of Tavua and Nadarivatu, Tavua to Navesau in Rakiraki apart from Rakiraki’s central business district.
