QU-YSC bags five awards at ISIF 2022 in Turkiye | The Peninsula Qatar

Doha: Qatar University’s Young Scientists Center (QU-YSC) has won five awards at the 7th International Innovation Fair (ISIF 2022), which was held in Samsun City, Turkiye, from August 30 to September 4.

The fair was held in conjunction with the TEKNOFEST Festival, which is a major event in Turkiye to showcase inventions and innovations in various fields.

The fair also provides an opportunity to meet with investors and market ideas and products. It is considered a scientific and social event to raise awareness of the importance of innovation and creativity for all ages, and a cultural event where visitors can gain knowledge through various workshops.

During the activities of the fair, the Young Scientists Center presented three projects. At the end of the exhibition, winning projects were honored. Issa Al Mohannadi and Saqer Al Rumaihi, from Jassim Bin Hamad Secondary School for Boys, won gold for their project “Silver grafted Ti3C2-MXene

Nanocomposite as Novel Anode Material for Lithium-Ion-Batteries,” which aims to use a nanocomposite material. As a new material in the anode of lithium batteries, it is characterized by improving battery efficiency, increasing capacity, reducing cost, and being rechargeable and reusable.

Ali Al Hammadi, Bandar Al Mansouri, Hamad Al Mulla, and Hamad Al Ahmad, from Qatar Secondary School for Science and Technology for Boys, won the gold medal and a special award for developing the Chair Puck game. The game tests strength, speed, quick intelligence, teamwork, and inclusiveness in integrating people with motor disabilities, and uses a combination of modern and old games.

Nasser Al Hajri and Hamad Al Malki from Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Secondary School for Boys won the bronze medal and special award with their research “Fabrication of Self-Healable Rubber Based Coating for Outdoor High Voltage Uses.” 

The research aims to manufacture a smart self-healing coating material from silicone rubber for use in coating the insulators of high-voltage electricity towers. Made of high pressure ceramic, the coating is characterized by its ability to withstand high temperatures and pressure and is not affected by water.
